MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) is a computer network in the territory of a city through which any two points in the area of coverage can be connected to each other through an optical cable without the need to be a long cable from one point to another. MAN network is located midway between the Internet and LAN - LAN, providing access to end users.

       MAN network consists of two main parts - the backbone network (backbone) and client interface. Backbone network represents a set of access points (POP - point of presence), which have a router connected to high speed connections. Client interface represents the optical cable connected between the subscriber and the nearest access point. To make connection between two or more subscriber posts in backbone network to configure a virtual LAN (VLAN). As the links in the backbone network are reserved, MAN-connection is even more reliable than direct cable (dark fiber), attached between two points.
